After Baylor's birthday always brings the last day of summer :(

Last day of Summer 2014

Out with summer and bring on fall...

Brighton begged me to decorate yesterday even though it only consists of a couple of festive things. Decorating for the seasons always makes him so happy though!

Baylor's Birthday Weekend

I am really slack. Just now getting around to posting Baylor's birthday weekend celebrations. So the weekend before last, we celebrated Baylor ALL WEEKEND with family. Fun times. He had a ball. SO lucky to have so  many people to love him!

Ninja Turtle!

Ready for church.

Always ready for church!

We had plans with all of the grandparents over the weekend and had to cancel with Max because he gave us all a scare and had to get checked out. He is feeling much better now, thank goodness! We did miss Abuelo and Abuela though.
Baylor is all about reading lately. He will bring me and Jason book after book and say "read" and then position himself to be picked up and put on our lap! He never tires of it. This is great though as for the longest time we were concerned that he had no interest. He has also been getting up before Brighton to come and have his own private snuggle time with Mommy and Daddy in the mornings. He is quite serious about it and we love it! Happy birthday to our 2 year old!!

Birthday Boy!!!

I can't believe it. He's 2. I thought I would go ahead and write some things about Baylor today as we will be busy over the weekend. His birthday is Saturday. We are not having an official party but do have many plans spread out over the weekend to celebrate with family.

Goodness, in the last year we have come a long way. He started walking, then running and is now a full on FORCE! Kid is rough and tough! Jason and I are drifting away from calling him "The Baby" and let me tell you why. In the last few months he has started talking up a storm! I traded in the diaper bag for a back pack which he proudly wears, walking into his preschool. While I am happy to see him progressing as he should, it does make me sad to lose the "baby".  He wants to do everything Bubby does and he is pretty good at keeping up with him. The saddest part of this transformation from baby to big boy is the crib. Gosh, these 2 boys of mine are so different! Brighton stayed in his crib until he was almost 3 and a half and we just got him out finally and into his big boy bed. Nope, not Baylor. He wanted out. Started climbing out of pack n play while we were on vacation, then once home, his crib. The control freak in me wanted to put the crib net over his bed, but eventually I came to terms with the fact that he wants to grow up and I have to let him. We took his crib out of his room  gave him Brighton's crib that converted into a toddler bed. He was of course so happy. He is good about staying in it when we put him to bed, but he sure is an early riser, thundering across the house every morning at 6:30! What else, oh he is great eater. Also he has become quite affectionate, giving arm kisses, hand kisses and hugs. I am sure he learned this from Brighton! He has gone from being a needy on-the-hip baby to being more independent in only a few months time. He is also very interested in the potty so I am sure that is right around the corner.

Baylor has never had any attachment to certain items. He never took a pacifier, or sucked his thumb or had a  "Lovey" animal or blanket that he wanted to sleep with. Until recently. He has taken this giraffe "Mo Mo" under his wing. Mo Mo is named after the little mohawk that he has. Baylor sleeps with him every night and loves to give him kisses!

Today was his last day of preschool of the week so he proudly carried in a bundle of these rice crispy treats that I made for him to share with his classmates.

Anyway, we could not be more proud of him. He is a joy to have and watch, takes up every ounce of energy I have but no matter if he is giving kisses or getting into ruckus we sure do think he is adorable, either way!
This was my shirt when I was 3. My dad was coaching a little boy's basketball league and had it made for me. At least I think that is right.

We are taking him back to the allergy specialist next week. I feel he has outgrown most of his food allergies but it is unlikely to outgrow a peanut allergy so I continue to watch him like a hawk and try to police the food intake around him, a job that I as his mother am forced to do. I hope I don't ever come off as rude about this, its just that I have a precious little life to protect! I am hoping to find out some info on getting him into a study that will get him to be immune to this eventually.

Proud of our baby boy. He sure does LOVE his brother and vise versa. Except when they are fighting, which is every other minute it seems. They are playing and hugging and kissing 1 minute and crying and fighting the next. They must be siblings! Happy birthday Baylor! We love you so much.
And what the heck, I'll do 1 last back to back for the special occasion!

farewell to the Green Pants

You may remember a post I wrote back in July about how much Brighton loves his green H&M pants.
https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=6945682869730890552#editor/target=post;postID=3848528586475674888;onPublishedMenu=allposts;onClosedMenu=allposts;postNum=9;src=link
Well, the love of the pants has continued, even through the hot days of summer. He also owns these pants in blue, but they just don't even come close. Unfortunately today, was the last day of them. After begging me for a week to wear them to school, and me protesting it was to hot I thought today would be a suitable day for Brighton to wear his favorite outfit. He was so happy. Until we got in the car. As I was buckling his seat belt, I saw something I had missed while in the house. A dreaded tear in the pants. It was pretty sizable. I told Brighton that he could not go to school with a giant hole in his pants. A full blown 4 year old meltdown then ensued. I could not pry him from my car no matter how hard I tried. he had a death grip going on. So, what did I do? I sighed, took a breath and gave in. In no world would I ever think I would allow a child of mine to show up in public in ripped clothing. It just meant so much to him to be able to wear them there one time that I decided to give in. He mourned the pants all the way there and I heard him mention "sealing them".  I told him with a sad heart that there was no fixing this tear and it was the last time he could wear them out. It was enough. He put on a smile but told me he would be KEEPING them!! I walked him in the preschool with my head down low and quietly explained to the teacher, and told her if it got worse and she needed to change him he had spare clothes in his bag. Poor guy. You can never tell what the littlest things mean to the littlest people!
If you look closely you can see the cut hole above the knee area

It came out in the school parking lot how the hole happened. He cut the pants when he was cutting out shapes this morning with his "safety scissors". Hope he learned a good lesson! To bad for Baylor that he won't have the hand-me-downs to look forward to... but I am thinking boy's pencil pants may not be in style in 2 years!

Weekend Fun

Last weekend was a very nice one. Brighton went to the beach with Gigi and Pop. They had a blast of course. I think it rained a lot but they found PLENTY to do!
Roller Skating!

Looks like he had a great time!

We of course missed Brighton. Did not realize that Baylor would miss him as much as he did though. Oh my gosh, he kept saying " Bubby??" The whole weekend he would ask where he was. They talked on the phone a few times and got very excited. It was adorable. We got to spend some great time with Baylor as an only child. It is totally different. I forgot how different it is with only one!
He went shop shop with me all day Saturday and Sunday Jason and I took him to brunch at Tupelo Honey and to ride the light rail. He could have cared less about the train ride. He has skipped the whole train obsession that Brighton went through at that age. Found out that he does like some football. Jason was watching the SC game and changed the channel for a second and Baylor yelled out "Watch Ball!".
Apparently we left the spit up years and went directly to the drool ones

Bonding with Jameson

About to get on the train

Now we have Brighton home and after a brief reconnection of affection, the boys quickly went back to their brotherly quarrels!

Anniversary Surprise!!

We pulled it off. Without a hitch.
For over a year, Lacey and I have been trying to come up with a special way to show our parents how proud we are of them being married for 40 years!! We wanted to celebrate and make them feel so special. We had 1st entertained the idea of doing a big party. We had the place booked and all but gave the place a deposit. Since 95% of their friends and family live far away and would have had to travel it would have been hard to pull off, and stressful on everyone. We decided instead to do a big weekend blow out with some of their best  friends. Jim and Linda Croke from Chicago. They are travel buddies and they go waaaaay back! Jim and Linda were more than happy to come in for the occasion. Lacey and I got to planning and it all happened how we wanted. Of course we have to thank our husbands as well for doing their part. Putting up with the planning, hauling, stashing food and drinks, cooking, airport runs, ect...
Donna and Darryl had NO idea and were so shocked that there were grins for miles and tears of joy (I think)! They thought that the usual suspects were coming over for a normal beach day on Saturday. Instead, this pulled up:

Here they are reading the itinerary for the weekend

My dad is soooo tired of us using this picture of him by the way!
Saturday was food and football, Sunday we all went on a dinner cruise (minus children) on The Catawba Queen. It was a fabulous time. Great dinner and views. They kept announcing the anniversary. It also happened to be Jason's birthday so we celebrated him as well!

Here is the happy couple in the Captain's Quarters!

Long time friends are the best!
What a fun weekend and great excuse for a PARTY!! Jim and Linda leave today, but we get to see them again in October! Love you Mom and Dad. Here's to the next 40 years!!

Heres one more of the Birthday Boy and his babes, on our way home from the celebrations.

1st Day of Preschool

Today was back to school. Brighton was excited as always. I was a little worried about Baylor, because last week at orientation he went straight for Mrs Linda in the "baby room" when we got there. That was where he knew to go...
But today, instead of me carrying a diaper bag for him, he got to bring a back pack instead. He felt like such a big boy. All last year I had to carry him in, even after he learned to walk because he would dart off down the hallways if I didn't, with a wild grin on his face.
He was so proud. We walked into his new class and he happily went into a room of 4 screaming toddlers who were all crying because their  mom's had just left them. Baylor did not shed a tear but had a smile on his face when he kissed me goodbye. Unfortunately for me though, I did not even get a "goodbye" from Brighton who was so preoccupied in his new space! This is his last year of preschool :(
